STUDY OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF EDUCATIONAL QUALITY ASSURANCE IN SOUTHEAST ASIA

Abstract


This article reflects on the historical development of higher education and quality assurance in Southeast Asia, using several countries as examples, from a broader perspective, while highlighting developments in Suotheast Asia. This paper explains the diverse and complex education models by reviewing events during the colonial era and tracing the continuum to the current conditions before explaining the historical foundations of quality assurance, particularly the rich and diverse models practiced by countries across the region. The chosen methodology of literature study, narrative or comprehensive, reveals that although activities that occurred during the colonial era played a role in influencing current education models, the fragile educational foundations left behind by the colonial legacy contributed to the diverse models adopted by the countries concerned. The pursuit of development guided by good practices also plays a major role in the selection of educational models that are tried and tested, and most significantly, investment in higher education as the foundation of national development.
