HOPE DAN PRESTASI AKADEMIK PADA MAHASISWA

Abstract


Abstract. Hope is one factor that can affect individual’s goals, including academic achievement.  This study aimed to examine the relationship between hope and Grade Point Average among actively enrolled students at a private university in Jakarta. Participants consisted of 342 male and female students drawn from the Faculties of Medicine, Engineering and Computer Science, Economics and Business, Psychology, and Social Sciences and Humanities. This study employed quantitative approach. Purposive sampling was employed, and data were analysed using Spearman’s rank-order correlation. Hope was measured using the Adult Hope Scale (reliability = 0.819; validity = 0.346–0.730), while academic achievement was assessed through Grade Point Average. The findings revealed a very weak and non-significant association between hope and academic achievement among the students (r = 0.017, p > 0,05). These results suggested that hope did not serve as a predictor of academic performance.

Abstrak. Hope merupakan salah satu komponen yang berpengaruh terhadap tujuan-tujuan, termasuk prestasi akademik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji hubungan antara hope dan indeks prestasi kumulatif pada mahasiswa. Partisipan penelitian terdiri dari 342 mahasiswa laki-laki dan perempuan yang berasal dari Fakultas Kedokteran, Fakultas Teknik dan Ilmu Komputer, Fakultas Ekonomi dan Bisnis, Fakultas Psikologi, serta Fakultas Ilmu Sosial dan Humaniora. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif. Teknik pengambilan sampel yang digunakan adalah sampling purposif, sedangkan teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah Spearman’s rank-order correlation. Variabel hope diukur menggunakan Skala Hope Dewasa (reliabilitas = 0,819; validitas = 0,346–0,730), sementara prestasi akademik diukur menggunakan indeks prestasi kumulatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya hubungan yang sangat lemah dan tidak signifikan antara harapan dan prestasi akademik pada mahasiswa (r = r = 0.017, p > 0,05). Temuan ini mengindikasikan bahwa hope tidak berperan sebagai prediktor prestasi akademik.
