Abstract

The Open Space Mall planning in Samarinda responds to the urban community’s need for commercial areas that are open, comfortable, and environmentally integrated. The modern architectural approach is applied to create a functionally efficient, aesthetically pleasing, and climate-responsive building. This project uses a descriptive-qualitative method through site analysis, space requirement assessments, field observations, and literature studies. The design places the mall building at the center of the site, with parking at the front and a garden plaza at the rear as a public open space. The building façade uses Low-E glass, ACP, and Lee Kwan Yew plant secondary skin to enhance thermal comfort and provide a modern appearance. This concept is expected to become a new architectural icon in Samarinda that is both functional and sustainable.
